After previously working on the desk-based archaeological assessment for the proposed redevelopment of the Mercer’s Hall in Frederick’s Place in the City of London, Hawk Heritage advised the Mercers on this major City of London scheme. The mercers lies in the heart of the City, just to the north of Cheapside. Hawk Heritage agreed the scope of works with the City of London Corporation and tendered the archaeological excavation and provided post-tender evaluation. MOLA won the contract and caried out the excavation which was completed within programme, managed by Hawk Heritage. A Roman road and Roman buildings were excavated along with evidence for various later medieval and post-medieval buildings on the site.
