Hawk Heritage was appointed by Bidwells LLP on behalf of the client, Lewdown Holdings Ltd, to carry out an archaeological desk-based assessment on a site at the former Sipson Garden Centre on Sipson Rd. The proposal was to replace the now defunct garden centre with a Centre for Excellence for Airside Support Vehicles. The site lies in an important Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age landscape with settlement activity continuing into the Roman and Saxon periods. The assessment recommended that there was the potential for archaeological remains within the site but that these were already sufficiently well-understood from previous archaeological work. It was therefore recommended any further works could be undertaken after planning consent was granted. Planning permission was duly granted in 2024.
