New College, Oxford wanted to redevelop their site on Savile Road for new student accommodation, a lecture theatre and other facilities. The main issue on the site was the Civil War ramparts of Charles I which lie along the northern boundary. This is deemed to be a nationally important monument so it was essential that it was both preserved and presented more sympathetically. With Chris’s help the designs were adjusted to better present the ramparts and Chris wrote the strategy for preserving the monument during construction. Planning consent was achieved and the new buildings are under construction.
Chris has also worked on the Oxford Radcliffe Infirmary project for Oxford University Estates, a new building for Balliol College, and helped to secure planning consent for a proposal to extend Trinity College.
