The redevelopment of Admiralty Arch into a 7* hotel required complex consultations with the City of Westminster and the Greater London Archaeological Advisory Service at Historic England. The site is a Grade I listed building and lies no the fringes of Whitehall and the Saxon settlement of Lundenwic but, potentially more importantly, lies in an area known for its important deposits of 120,000 years ago containing the remains of cave lion, hippopotamus and rhinoceros. Pre-determination evaluation was not possible on such a constrained site so evaluation works were scheduled for post-determination of the planning application. Planning consent was granted and works are ongoing.
